Saturday 29 October 2011 saw the re-opening of Ballantynes department store and 29 other retailers in a 'Container Mall' in the damaged central city area. The public reaction to this 'revived area' has been extremely positive and the city planners are increasing this type of interim development that is seeing store owners keen to get back to the city. The re-build of Christchurch is picking up rapidly with this 'funky style' of store. The gardens of the city are looking beautiful and this time of year is always great to visit Christchurch.

Lorenzo Motor Lodge is fully operational and extremely busy as 2012 gets under way, (updated 1 February 2012) as are the surrounding restaurants and Westfield Mall and other retail areas to the west of the city. The Riccarton area has thrived deputizing as the new Central Business District (CBD).
